HELPING OTHERS THROUGH PRAYER
Q: When we can’t help others practically, is praying the least we can do?
A: It is a right thing to help those in need within our means - time, money and soliciting help from others. Helping others will cost us. We do not do it out of convenience. We must always be ready to help or in other words - be spontaneous. Ephesians 2:10; Galatians 6:10. Prayer and practical help goes hand in hand. The right approach to prayer is to ask God to give us the means which at present are beyond our own ability. When the means come, then we can practically help others. As long as the means do not come, we will continue to pray. It is a sign of our seriousness to help. Remember, it is God that is working through us.
When a Christian say "I will pray for you", it is generally done out of formality without any intention to render help. Once the prayer has been said at that moment, it will be forgotten in the next. Worse still, they will say "I will keep you in prayer", don't know whether they remember to pray or not. The next time the Christian sees you, the issue for prayer comes back to mind and out of formality again, will ask about the outcome of the issue.
