CONFIDENT
Some girls who are daring to wear bikinis publicly are said to be "confident". That’s according to the world standard. According to the Bible, a woman of confidence is not found by what she wears but by what she does in life. That ideal woman can be found in Proverb 31. Every Christian woman can be like her because every bit of her is an expression of Christ-likeness.
SINGLE OR MARRIED
It was said that if a single person doesn’t get married and have children, he/she has missed out the experiences of bringing up children.
If a Christian single grows into maturity in Jesus Christ, he/she will automatically possesses the husband/father or wife/mother qualities.
Before God created anything, He is - He is loving, just, gracious, merciful and forgiving. Only through the fall of creation that God was seen as who He really is. God is already self sufficient before creation. He doesn’t need to miss out the experiences of going through with Mankind. But somehow, He chose to.
Single or Married is just two aspects of life. Neither one is superior over the other. So a Christian single will not miss out anything in life as Jesus is Life. Life is all about loving, being just, gracious, merciful and forgiving, and these can be experienced when a single Christian really involves in the lives of others. Jesus is 100% human and was a single when He was on earth. Did He miss out anything in life?
DISCERNMENT
A boy between 18-20 years old approached me and asked to give him money for food while I was waiting for the train in Kovan. I gave him a "No" within a split second. My brain processed 2 things before the split second answer. One, he has an Ez link card and definitely a "con" job in process. Second, he was so fat that he can go without food for 2 weeks. He would have used up his reserves like a camel and a slimming process would do him good. Amazing, that’s how fast a brain can process!
Discernment is needed these days as the Bible says that there are false teachers of the Word who will "con" salvation and money out of Christians. To have such discernment, one must be thorough with the Word and then let the brain do the rest. God has called Christians to love Him with "all your mind".
FIREWORKS
Many people will throng to the best places to see the 5 mins or so fireworks display celebrating National Day. After the event, they will throng back to their homes. This was evident by the jam packed MRT trains immediately after the event. People do like the spectacular to stir some good feelings in them from time to time, but somehow life just get back to normal after that. A spectacular event is a means to an end, and not an end to itself. The former is much truer than latter.
There are "fireworks" display in the Christian community today. It could be the annual "Festival of Praise", the week-end mega church services with good music and good speakers or a national missions conference like Go4th which is coming up in 2005.
Fireworks go as quickly as they come. A bond fire can be kept burning as long as wood is fed continually. Today’s kind of Christianity is much more like a firework display, it just fizzle out after awhile.
There was a spectacular event that took place in the upper-room in Acts 2. It was a firework display of a divine kind. It took a few minutes also and that fire lasted till the end of the believers lives living a spectacular lifestyle - death by martyrdom. They did not go home after the event but they went out to the nations.
